Popular Web Based Email Services
Hotmail
- Hotmail is a popular web based email client offering up to 2GB of storage space and enhanced interface. Users can take advantage of the normal features usually found within a windows interface like select several items at a time and sorting by date and subject. Various options are available to customise the view including changing colours and determining where the reading pane is displayed. A customisable junk email filter allows for the creation of a white list and for email addresses which should immediately be classed as junk or spam.
Yahoo
- Yahoo email now has integration with the Yahoo messenger service so that from the inbox it is possible to see which contacts are online. Drag and drop functionality is available for both emails and folders and there are a host of other options which allow customisation of the interface and how spam and junk mail is treated. Unlimited storage is a new feature which has been introduced so that users do not have to worry about reaching a storage limit. This service is free for moderate use which is not defined. Abuses of this facility are not permitted.
Google Mail
- Google mail or Gmail is now in general release after being restricted during its beta phrase. It provides a powerful message search facility and ample storage space so that useful messages do not have to be deleted. Integration which its online chat allows users to communicate with contacts and to save or discard conversations and there is even a voicemail service where contact can use Google Talk to leave voice messages. There are numerous other features including virus scanning and large file storage and sending.
