When Companies House Registers Two Businesses with the Same Name

When Companies House Makes an Error

In rare cases, Companies House has been known to allow two businesses to be registered with the same name. This has happened when to companies join their company formation queuing system one soon after the other.

The applications are processed almost at the same time so that at the time each is being registered, the system has no knowledge of the other.

Free Change of Company Name

In such rare cases where this event occurs, Companies House will contact the company formation agent of the puirchaser who has been judged to have finished second.

They will request that the customer is contacted and offered a free name change.

As two companies can not have the same company name, the company would have little choice but to accept the offer or face dissolution.
