Points to Note When Completing Form 288a

Appointment of director and secretary
The Form 288a is suitable for the appointment of a company director or secretary.

Appointing the same person as director and secretary
If the same person is to be appointed as a director AND a secretary, only one form is required provided that ticks are placed in both boxes on the form.

Address of the director or secretary
Unless a person has a previously approved dispensation, the address of the appointee MUST be their usual residential address. It can be a business address (unless the person works form home) or other commercial property address.

Post Code
The postal code must exist on the Royal Mail official list for it to be accepted.

Signatures
Both the person being appointment and a current director or secretary must sign the form.

Posting the form
The completed Form 288a should be sent to Companies House at the address on the document

Other directorships
This only applies to director’s appointments and NOT company secretaries. Directorships of non UK companies should NOT be listed on the form.

Appointing a person who is a director of more than five UK companies
In circumstances where the appointee has more than five other directorships, either currently or within the last five years; these can be listed and enclosed with the Form 288a on a separate sheet of paper.
